During the first class of EDCI 336: Technology and Innovation of Education, I reflected on my own experiences with using technology in and out of the classroom setting. In the past I have not been known to be very tech savvy. I am usually the one freaking out because I can’t figure out how to get something to work and my partner will come and fix it for me, but throughout the last few years I have been working at developing a better understanding of technology as a whole. I am now comfortable using and posting on all social media websites, and I am also more confident using all of the features that Google has to offer ie. Gmail, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, etc. Another tool I have recently learned how to use for photoshop and digital design purposes is Procreate on my iPad. As a teacher candidate, something that will be important for me to become confident in will be Google Classroom, and I suppose Microsoft Teams if that’s something that certain schools use.
During the class I feel like I became less hesitant about what was going to be expected of us throughout the semester. I think I was worried that we would have to do things like coding or other fancy tech things that I am absolutely clueless about. I appreciate that we can learn at our own pace in this course and that there is no pressure to be perfect.
I was really hesitant to begin creating and customizing my blog because of my lack of knowledge on how to use sites like WordPress. I started running a small business a few years ago, and so far I have a Facebook business page created for it, but have had many failed attempts at creating an actual website for it. Hopefully that is something I can get out of this class as well, the knowledge of how to confidently create something like that on my own.
